INTERNATIONAL MISSION
First Presbyterian Church maintains a strong tradition of global outreach. Each year, the church gives a percentage of its pledged income to the Presbytery as Benevolent Giving.
Our congregation also receives offerings at different times during the year for special purposes, such as on Easter Sunday with the One Great Hour of Sharing offering and the Christmas Joy offering in December.
We also participate in Operation Christmas Child. Each congregation member is invited to put together a shoebox full of gifts for a youngster and drop it off at the church. After the shoeboxes are dedicated during the worship service on the last Sunday of National Collection Week, the shoeboxes are then transported to one of the main pick up points for OCC. Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse. Please visit their web site (www.samaritanspurse.org) for more information on this worthwhile project!
Since 2006, our church has teamed with Mission Emanuel to send small groups of adults and youth to the Dominican Republic. The projects in partnership with Mission Emanuel vary from year to year. Some years, we have built block homes for the residents of Cielo. Other years, we have helped refurbish warehouse space for a school. The primary emphasis of our mission to the Dominican Republic is creating relationships with the Dominican people. Once every four years, our high school youth group, Acts Alive, have the opportunity to take a mission trip to the Dominican Republic.
